Admission Requirements

The following requirements apply to the Entry-Level Army-Baylor OTD program and must be met by every applicant to be considered for admission.

Program Admission Requirements

All applications must be submitted through the Occupational Therapy Centralized Application Service (OTCAS).

Admission to the Entry-Level Army-Baylor OTD program closely follows the admission criteria for all health science programs in the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences with differences reflecting the need for prerequisite courses unique to and in support of the OTD curriculum. Students applying to the Army-Baylor OTD program should have the requisite skills and demonstrated potential to navigate the academic rigors of an accelerated military based OTD education.

Prerequisites Coursework

All applicants must hold a Baccalaureate Degree in Arts or Sciences from an accredited university or be in the last semester of coursework at the time of the board. All applicants must complete 29 credit hours of specified prerequisite coursework. A minimum 3.0 prerequisite GPA is required. A minimum 3.0 overall GPA is required. These GPA requirements are not waiverable. The following prerequisites (or their approved transfer equivalents) are required for admission:

  • Acceptable courses include: Human Anatomy, Vertebrate Anatomy, Comparative Anatomy, or Anatomy and Physiology 1 (must be combined with A&P 2)
  • Online labs are not acceptable
Physiology with Lab4 semester hours or equivalent
  • Acceptable courses include: Human Physiology, Vertebrate Physiology, Mammalian Physiology, or Anatomy and Physiology 2 (must be combined with A&P 1)
  • Exercise Physiology does not count for this prerequisite
  • Online labs are not acceptable
General Biology with Lab3-4 semester hours or equivalent
  • Acceptable courses with lab include: General Biology, Biology 1, Introductory Biology, and Advance Placement Biology (credits awarded on college transcript)
  • Online labs are acceptable
Kinesiology3 semester hours or equivalent
  • Acceptable courses include: Biomechanics, Functional Anatomy, Human Movement, Physics with Lab (credits awarded on college transcript)
  • Online courses are acceptable
Human Development - Lifespan3 semester hours or equivalent
  • Acceptable courses include: Motor and Psychosocial Development, Lifespan Development
  • Online courses are acceptable
Additional Social SciencesTotal of 6 semester hours or equivalent
  • Acceptable courses include: Psychology, Anthropology, Gender Studies, Public Health, Humanities, Global Perspective, Philosophy, Ethics, Cultural Studies, Literature, Foreign Language
  • Online courses are acceptable
Abnormal Psychology3 semester hours or equivalent
  • Acceptable courses include: Emotional and Behavioral Health, Behavioral Psychology, or Maladaptive Behaviors, Brain and Behavior, Neuroscience
  • Online courses are acceptable
Statistics3 semester hours or equivalent
  • Acceptable courses include: Statistics, Statistical Methods, Statistical Logic
  • Online courses are acceptable
Medical Terminology1 credit hour 

Additional Prerequisite Information

  1. Requirement: Our OTCAS GRE Code is 3539. All applicants must request ETS.org to send their GRE scores to our OTCAS GRE Code: 3539
  2. Requirement: Prerequisite courses must be less than 10 years old from the application deadline.
  3. Requirement: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) completed within the last 5 years, including the analytical writing portion.
  4. Requirement: Must achieve a GRE Combined score (quantitative + verbal) of 300.
  5. Requirement: Must achieve a GRE Verbal score of 149 or greater.
  6. Requirement: Must achieve a GRE Quantitative score of 145 or greater.
  7. Requirement: Must achieve a GRE Analytical Writing score of 3.5 or greater.
  8. Requirement: Must complete a minimum of 40 volunteer observation hours under an occupational therapy setting. It is highly recommended that these hours come from at least two clinical practice settings, with at least one in a traditional OT clinic (e.g. outpatient orthopedic, and/or acute care). If the opportunity is available, we encourage applicants to gain military, Veterans Affairs, or H2F (Holistic Health & Fitness) OT experience.
  9. Requirement: Must receive 3 (4 max) letters of reference (LOR); all letters of reference are submitted via OTCAS. LORs must be dated and signed by the author.
    • LOR 1 – From a Professor of Faculty Advisor. This LOR is separate from Dean’s Letter stating applicant’s projected graduation date.
    • LOR 2 – From a current or previous Supervisor
    • LOR 3 – From anyone of the applicant’s choosing (employer, professor, faculty member, occupational therapist, peer, etc.).
    • Active Duty, Active Reserve, or Active Guard Service Members – A letter of recommendation is required from the first O-5 in your Chain of Command (counts as a "Professional" reference if submitting 3 letters).
