From the Director
On behalf of the U.S. Army Medical Specialist Corps, I sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. The Master’s Program in Nutrition (MPN) is an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) Competency Focused Graduate Program that offers students an integrated competency-focused approach. While enrolled in the program, our students complete over 66 credit hours and 1,300 student experiential learning (SEL) hours in a two-year period. Through integration and use of the adult learning model, our program includes basic theory and traditional lecture in the classroom with early application at learning sites. Our program allows students to rapidly apply lessons learned in the classroom to the real world with practical rotations in clinical, food service, tactical performance, and community-based settings. This program not only prepares students for successful completion of their national registration examination to earn their credential as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, but it also prepares students as leaders ready to serve a grateful Nation.
As a preparatory program for military service as commissioned officers in the United States Army, our program is based on the Army values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Military dietitians serve in garrison (home station) settings in hospitals working in clinical, food service, and executive leadership positions or assigned directly to various units as part of a multidisciplinary teams charged with optimizing the performance of the Warfighter. In deployed settings, military dietitians may work in humanitarian assistance/disaster response or in combat service support as part of an Army Field Hospital unit. We actively seek applicants who support and embody our core Army values and want to be part of a legacy of military dietetics that has continued for over 100 years.
Our benefits include: a 100% tuition-free program, paid moving expenses, a competitive salary while in the program, housing and food allowances, 30 days paid vacation per year, and complete healthcare and dental benefits.
